Plant-based medicines may be an option for you

Are you eligible?

Plant based medicines have been used throughout the world to assist in the management of many disease states. Recent changes to relevant laws in Australia have meant that some previously forbidden medicines are now available to assist in situations where conventional treatments have been inadequate.

There have been very few well designed clinical trials using plant based medicines, so there is limited evidence on its success in treating different conditions. Further, like all medicines, natural or plant based medicines have side effects and may react with other medicines. Response to some plant based medicines can vary significantly between patients.

The TGA allows prescription of plant-based medicine for over 50 Conditions, which includes but is not limited to the following:

Cancer pain, Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), Chronic Pain, Anxiety, Depression, Epilepsy & Seizure Management, Endometriosis, Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, Palliative Care, PTSD, Tourette Syndrome

The TGA will consider any condition that has lasted longer than 3 months which hasn’t responded to first line conventional treatments. The TGA assesses each individual patient’s application, and there is no guarantee that the application will be approved. For further information regarding the TGA Guidelines and the TGA’s summary of the available scientific evidence you can follow the link below:

If you suffer from any of the above conditions and conventional therapies have not worked, natural medicine may be the right option for you. Our doctors are available for Telehealth (Video) or face to face consults to advise on whether plant-based medicines are appropriate for your condition.

City Natural Medicine Clinic are Authorised Prescribers of Plant-Based Medicines.

TGA Authorises certain Medical Practitioners to prescribe unapproved therapeutic goods without further approval. A Medical Practitioner goes through extensive training to best assess a patient’s needs and monitor the outcomes.
